Music

At Barby, we want our children to develop a love and appreciation of music from different ages, cultures and styles. We aim to make music lessons fun and inspiring; we engage our children through songs, lyrics and movement. Opportunities are provided for the children to learn music theory, composition and creativity and to express themselves through music. We follow the Charanga scheme of work for Music lessons but enjoy building music into all aspects of school life.

All children are actively encouraged and given the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, from standard classroom instruments to individual instrumental lessons with the visiting peripatetic staff. Each year, our Year 3 children have the opportunity to learn an instrument together through our partnership with NMPAT and their First Access project. This year, it’s ukuleles!
